Saving energy in style!

Just installed a Nest at the office. Even within the first hour after installation we can already tell a difference in the way temperature is controlled. Great product!
Welcome to Tangible, a product development boutique based out of Chicago. This blog is intended to share the on-goings of our our office as well as non-confidential projects.
Please go to our main site to find out more about what we do.

Christmas came early this morning! Prototypes of our WSKY tumblers arrived at the office. These glasses are lathe blown in Boulder, Colorado by Allen Scientific and “tested” with one of our favorite whiskeys from Koval, distilled just down the street from our office.
Stay tuned for more updates on this project.

Our new site is finally up and running. We will now be using that as the main site and the blog for news and internal project updates.
Just a simple exercise using laser cut and etched walnut, inspired by the Companion Cube from Portal/Portal 2. All done in the name of science!!!

The above image shows the parts straight from the laser cutters. The material is masked prior to cutting, protecting the surface from smoke marks. Once complete, the masking is peeled away to expose the surface in preparation for coating.

Initial development and geometry are complete! Although the leather portion of gloves are not typically modeled in CAD, it was a great exercise for our intern to learn the depths of Solidworks.

Oh look! While walking through a Target this weekend, I stumbled across a collection of patio furniture we helped develop last year (table and chairs, not the pineapples).
Our responsibility on this project was mainly back end CAD development; balancing structural stability and minimum material usage (aluminum). Developing the machine cast components very precisely in CAD allowed us to take every bit of excess material waste out of the product while staying true to the original design intent.

A big congrats to Big Hearts Fund, as they just officially launched their dogbowls for purchase. It was a great opportunity to develop products for a non-profit to help their cause. We wish them the best of luck.
The bowl stands are available for purchase directly from their store.

Woohoo! The initial geometry is done and we could not be happier with the way the structure and details turned out. A huge thank you to Milan for all of his efforts in bringing the initial idea to this state of development.

Just got the keys to our new office space, exciting! This will be the main area where desks will go, there is also a conference room, a production/prototyping space around the corner, and a decent amount of storage. We will be updating as the move progresses.

Last month we announced the final design for the Big Hearts Fund pet food bowls and, as mentioned, we are having them made in Chicago. Being produced locally gives us the luxury to share certain steps of the manufacturing process.
What you see here are the three sizes of steel blanks being pulled off the racks to go to the forming machine. After forming they will get powdercoated and then anti-skid material will be wrapped on the base of the square cutouts. Just a week away from final delivery so keep checking the BHF site to see when they will be available.
